summer skincare essentials
i'm a self-proclaimed skincare junkie. addict. i have no shame in admitting that i'd rather spend all of my money on a good lotion or face wash instead of a new pair of shoes. seriously! anyone who knows me well will also know that i can't stand wearing shoes. i'd rather go through life as a wandering barefooted freak but that's not what we're here to talk about. we're here to talk about my favorite summer skincare essentials.
we still have a glimmer of the summer season left here in chicago. thankfully, it's been a pretty mild summer overall with 70-80 degree weather and low humidity. humidity and me = a disaster waiting to happen. the products i want to share with you are not only great for sensitive skin like mine but are from reliable, trusted brands that care about what goes IN the products. i should also mention that this review is entirely my own and i have not been paid or provided with any of these products. all products purchased by yours truly.
i have a similar morning and nighttime routine with the exception of a few serums and whether i need to remove makeup at the end of the day. in the morning, after waking up, i start by using the youth to the people superfood cleanser. it's claim is that it's packed with good-for-you superfoods like kale, spinach, green tea, and loads of other vitamins. i have to say, initially, i was a bit skeptical when the sephora salesperson sold me on a "starter kit" of this brand's products. but! this cleanser is fantastically light, non-stripping, and smells AMAZING. i use the tiniest amount to lather up my face and will be purchasing the giant size bottle when this small one is out.
after i cleanse, i always, always, ALWAYS use a mild toner. toner and me have a bad history. when i was uneducated about skincare products, i used alcohol based toners that stripped my skin and DRIED me out. since i started researching natural and better-for-you products, i came across a little skincare line, luminance, toting raw, vegan, and non-toxic products. their rosewater facial spray is by far the best i've ever tried. not only does it SMELL amazing and comes at a decent price, it only contains ONE ingredient: 100% pure rosewater. i'm on my 4th bottle of this stuff and i'll never switch to anything else.
the next few products are switched up daily depending on how my skin is feeling that day. if i'm going makeup free for the day, then i'll finish up my routine with a small dab of the youth to the people superfood cream. like the cleanser, it is packed with kale, spinach, and green tea and it also uses hyaluronic acid as it's base which makes this cream more of a gel and effortlessly weightless.
and lastly, no skincare regime wouldn't be complete without a really good body wash. again, sensitive skin means using gentle products and this weleda wild rose creamy body wash is just the ticket. it's SUPER luxurious and leaves a faint rosy smell on the skin. i can definitely see myself using this product all year round as a classic rose scent never goes out of style.
